Welcome!
Our music scholarships came out of the original desire to give students an opportunity to receive the several benefits that music study and performance can provide.
Primarily, we are an organization of music teachers, originally based out of Park City, Utah. Most of us have limited resources to fund the many scholarships that match the need in our communities.
Thus, we spent many years wasting our money with grant writers who could not obtain funds for music scholarships, as most private grants were more concerned about "the amount of people served," rather than single scholarships for "the one," and most would not allow their funds to be used for scholarships. For several years, teachers and administrators provided in-house "scholarships" by donating their time, taking money out of their own pockets, or struggling with awkward bartering for services, which was difficult to track and fulfill.
As we applied for governmental programs funded by "arts taxes," we found that these programs did not apply to individual scholarships; conversely, usually funding the "big guys," who enhanced the tax base, such as the symphonies and large theaters organizations.
So, we began to appeal to individual, family, and corporate angels, who understood the culture of giving back for the greater good of our neighbors, our children, and families in need of a helping hand.
All of our scholarships give up to 50% of music tuition, with the student and/or family responsible to also do their part.
Additionally, we are partnered with a local music school that donates office space and employee hours for the administration of several opportunities and projects. Such projects benefit deserving students, such as unique performing venues, collaborations with orchestras, compositional projects, and national-level training in camps, competitions, festivals, and internships.
We have also partnered with a music store that offers reduced rates (and even free use) of rental instruments, thus reducing expenses while a child is starting a new instrument.
With your help, we can provide disadvantaged students with music education, proven to make one smarter, healthier in mind and body, bringing joy to self and others, and leading to a life-long skill that will build our community through the magic of music.
Music heals us, weaves us together as friends and community, entertains, enlightens, expresses a variety of viewpoints, unites society while yet maintaining our important differences and individuality.
In the words of our charity's founder, Dr. Fredric Cook, your contribution to music scholarships can engender life skills of ".....mastering attention.... making effective choices....giving opportunities to contribute....assisting in diversity and involvement in a variety of viewpoints....supporting a non-critical approach to creating....and allowing questioning vs. dictating."
The pandemic of 2020 gave us an sad example of a society that curtailed their participation in music, and we have become even more committed to the importance of music education and music scholarships as a result.
Let's keep the blessings of music playing!
